Nov 11, 2024: During July of 2024, SingularityNET and Filecoin Foundation announced a partnership that was set to enhance the integration of the AI and DePIN industries while adhering to strong decentralization principles and promoting the development of the Knowledge Layer. SingularityNET, a Founding Member of the Artificial Superintelligence (ASI) Alliance, has been a longstanding proponent of decentralized AI development, continuously pushing the boundaries of innovation to ensure that Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) evolves in a transparent, ethical, and inclusive ecosystem.
Both teams along with Lighthouse, one of the primary data onboarding solutions in the Filecoin ecosystem, have been actively working on integrating their tech stacks to enable SingularityNET to store files in a decentralized manner using Filecoin’s infrastructure and the Lighthouse SDK.
Lighthouse Storage provides decentralized, permanent storage built on Filecoin, offering SingularityNET a scalable and cost-effective solution for storing metadata, and other essential files. This infrastructure ensures long-term data permanence and security, aligning perfectly with SingularityNET’s commitment to decentralization. Currently, the primary use case involves the secure storage of metadata and .proto files for decentralized services.
Multiple tools are available to access Lighthouse, including Daemon JS SDK, Python SDK, and CLI, all functioning via the Lighthouse SDK which works using HTTP API. The universal API is language-independent, and each function is documented with corresponding HTTP API examples, offering users the ability to toggle between SDK and API options seamlessly.
Lighthouse Storage’s pay-per-use model for Filecoin will be integrated into SingularityNET in a later stage. At this stage, the users can purchase the subscription directly on Filecoin to get the API key. This key should be provided to the SingularityNET CLI in order to publish data to the Filecoin storage. This flexible pricing structure enables cost-effective, on-demand storage, ensuring users only pay when they upload or retrieve files—perfectly meeting SingularityNET’s requirements for scalability and affordability for its decentralized services.
As part of the ASI Alliance’s mission to decentralize and democratize AI, this collaboration with Filecoin Foundation and Lighthouse marks a significant milestone toward creating scalable, secure AI infrastructures for a future driven by AGI. SingularityNET’s integration of Filecoin, supported by the Lighthouse SDK, underscores the vision of the Alliance to decentralize AI innovation, ensuring that the building blocks of Artificial Superintelligence remain secure, cost-effective, and widely accessible.
As part of the plan, SingularityNET has successfully completed the technical integration of the following components in the first phase of the roadmap:
Looking ahead, SingularityNET will continue the integration in the second phase, which will include:
Once fully integrated, SingularityNET users will be able to leverage Filecoin for storing metadata, just as they currently do with IPFS, the technology that underlies the Filecoin network. SingularityNET will also provide a demo, during which the technical team will explain to the community how to use these capabilities once the integration is complete.
By aligning with the ASI Alliance’s goals, this partnership not only strengthens SingularityNET’s technical capabilities but also advances the decentralized development of advanced AI and AGI, bringing us closer to the realization of Artificial Superintelligence. These developments reflect a strategic focus on ensuring that AI and subsequent AGI technologies evolve within a decentralized ecosystem, helping ensure that they’re ultimately developed in a transparent and ethical manner – and beneficial to all. SingularityNET was founded by Dr. Ben Goertzel with the mission of creating a decentralized, democratic, inclusive and beneficial Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). According to Dr. Goertzel, AGI should be independent of any central entity, open to anyone and not restricted to the narrow goals of a single corporation or a single country. The SingularityNET team includes seasoned engineers, scientists, researchers, entrepreneurs, and marketers. The core platform and the SingularityNET AI teams are complemented by specialized teams devoted to various application areas such as robotics, biomedical AI, finance, media, arts and entertainment.
Filecoin Foundation (FF) facilitates governance of the Filecoin network, funds research and development projects, and supports the growth of the Filecoin ecosystem and community. Its mission is to preserve humanity’s most important information. Filecoin is a peer-to-peer network that stores files, with built-in economic incentives and cryptography to ensure files are stored reliably over time.
Lighthouse is building a data layer for AI, DePin and NFTs with permanent storage and access control on Filecoin. The aim is to move users from a rent-based cost model where they rent their files on cloud storage to a perpetual storage model. It is built on IPFS and Filecoin, with smart contracts to be deployed on multiple chains like FVM, Optimism, Polygon, Solana, etc. It uses the miner network and storage capacity of the Filecoin network and IPFS content-addressing system. It is dedicated to providing secure, scalable, and cost-effective storage options, supporting a wide range of applications across various blockchain ecosystems. Website – https://lhprotocol.com/.
