The BGI Nexus initiative, in collaboration with Deep Funding, is excited to announce the new BGI Nexus grant cycle. The first grant round will open on February 10th, and be an opportunity to showcase global progress toward AI systems that benefit humanity and the world. Winners will be announced in April, and will attend the BGI Summit and Unconference to present their projects and to network with fellow thought leaders in the space of BGI.
In the first round alone, we will be offering a total of $500,000 of funding for technical projects that embody the BGI Nexus mission of creating and implementing beneficial AI and AGI. These projects will embody the theme of this year’s BGI Summit and Unconference “Building a Compassionate and Abundant Future”
The submission period will open Monday, February 10th; at this time proposers can officially submit their proposals for consideration in the grant round. The submission period will last one week, and close on February 24th.

We are seeking ethical, impactful, interesting, and innovative projects to be awarded for this pilot round, and lay a foundation for future success. This first grant round is designed to be small and fast, innovating processes with the community that can serve to attract impactful and beneficial projects that build the future of AI for everyone. As such, processes and dates will have some flexibility to accommodate necessary changes as the needs of the grant cycle unfold.
For this round, community involvement is just as important as involvement by developers. We invite everyone to take part in this pilot round by submitting your well-developed projects, participating in voting, and joining community discussions. Help us to build and refine a structure that ensures a smooth and meaningful experience for everyone.
Note: As the first test round of the new BGI Nexus funding program, program parameters may need to be adjusted in response to how the grant round progress unfolds. The review and selection process will be refined as the round progresses, in line with the demands of the round and the number of proposals.
In-progress changes will be minimized as far as possible, and any changes will be communicated at the earliest possible opportunity to the entire community via email and announcement channels. Participants are responsible for monitoring these channels and receiving all updates.
The grant cycle will be open for submissions for two weeks. Proposals must align with the BGI Nexus vision for proliferating beneficial and impactful AI technologies. They need to include budgets and milestones, and demonstrate their originality and impact.
To ensure the highest quality, proposals will go through a thorough review process of approximately one month. Proposals will be reviewed and scored by BGI Community reviewers and technical experts, and only proposals with a score of 7+ out of 10 will progress to final selection. Community reviews will be posted publicly (but anonymously) on proposal pages so that the rest of the community can evaluate them.
After the review period, there will be a week to boost proposal awareness, which may include some events and other means of spotlighting proposals. We highly recommend that proposers join the community to talk about their projects, host AMAs, record videos, and promote their innovative projects!
Following the proposal awareness week, the proposals will go through a final selection process, which will consist of a calculation of review scores and voting outcomes. As this is a test round, the exact mode of selection may change depending on the number of proposals and reviewers.
We strongly encourage the whole community to come together to comment and ask questions about the proposals during and after the submission period! This will help stimulate discussions and help proposers to improve their proposals.
We hope to see many of the BGI and SingularityNET community come together to make these vital decisions in which beneficial AI projects should go forward!
The primary goal of the BGI Nexus is to develop a platform that enables anyone, anywhere, to determine what a beneficial and inclusive future for humankind and the earth should be, and to contribute to building that future. The system will gather the collective intelligence of humanity and synthesize it into a knowledge base, serving as a crowdsourced resource of human wisdom and priorities. This will stimulate reflection and action towards long-range goals for us as a species, giving a sense of agency and participation in the exponential changes occurring in the world.
At the BGI Nexus, we are steadily growing and shaping what the Nexus is and the BGI dreams we wish to achieve. One of our biggest desires is to fund and support projects that are building the BGI track. We aim to create a system where anyone can contribute to projects in a way that suits them—whether through fiat or crypto donations, providing computing power, sharing technology, or offering manpower. Learn more about the BGI Collective on its official website.
The platform will offer users easy ways to add value through ideas, insights, data, computing power, and funding. Participants can distribute this value to goals agreed to be beneficial for the future of humankind by a qualified majority. This will be achieved through a voting system based on identity verification and positive, constructive actions and behavior.
Every user can contribute by engaging in meaningful conversations about beneficial AGI and related technologies, computing power, and data. Users can propose or define specific projects that support the greater goal and vote for the support of these projects through the allocation of donated resources.
Currently, AI ethics are primarily shaped by academic institutions, regulatory bodies, and corporate interests. Given AI’s widespread impact on all aspects of our lives, all of us need to use our voices and participate in shaping AI ethics.
The initiative aims to ensure that the establishment of principles and ethics for AI and AGI development reflects the collective input of humanity, of each one of us.
Join us at the BGI Nexus open offices that are hosted every other Thursday at 6 pm UTC. The next meeting will be held on February 13th and you can register and join at this link: BGI Nexus Meeting Zoom
